comparative music music essay

Your assignment should be in Chicago style with a
bibliography that includes references to sources from your own research. It
should be between 650 words in length, and will be graded
based on the rubric found below.
Choose a song or tune from one of the
resources listed below. Please note, your musical choice does not have to
originate in Canada, though you do have to find a recording by a Canadian.
Research the tune/song’s history
and background (are there any notable or interesting musical
characteristics? Is it very widespread, somewhat obscure, or very
obscure? Do we know who wrote it?)
Find two different recordings
of the same piece of music. One of these recordings MUST be
by a Canadian musician. Include links or upload files of these
versions along with your written assignment. These do not have
to be professional recordings; they can be field recordings or
videos from YouTube.
Do a comparative musical analysis of the
two versions you found using the same musical elements as criteria
from the listening assignment (volume/dynamics, instruments, speed/tempo).
Explain why you chose this piece –
were you drawn to the title, composer, an artist who recorded it, or for
another reason?
