Assignment Description:
Write a 5 paragraph essay (600 word minimum) in which you compare and contrast two subjects: (ex: movies, films, or television shows.) Analyze your movies or shows, focusing on 3 key elements or criteria as points of comparison or contrast. In your thesis and especially in your conclusion, make an assertion of which film, movie, or show you feel is better.
Following the rules of argumentation, you should describe both works objectively. Use three criteria to evaluate each, with specific illustrations and details from your TV programs, movies, or films to show how they meet these criteria in each of your body paragraphs. Following the structure of comparison/contrast, your essay should use transitional words indicating contrast between the two works. Combine the modes of evaluation, illustration, comparison/ contrast, and persuasion.
Point of View:
Third-person objective voice, with persuasive tone. Avoid 1st person. Omit 2nd person from all essays.

General Guidelines:
Remember that you have a purpose for your comparison or contrast. You are using the similarities and differences to prove the point you made in your thesis.In your thesis statement, be sure that your preference or assertion about the two movies or shows is clearly stated. It is not acceptable to write, “The old and new versions of I am Legend differ greatly.” That is a statement of fact, not an assertion. A better thesis statement would make a claim that one film offers a “better” version than the other.
