1. Compare and contrast the moral claims pertaining to abortion as outlined in the respective arguments by Judith Jarvis Thomson (pp. 375-387) and Don Marquis (pp. 388-397).
2. Write a brief comparative analysis which summarizes the main arguments of two essays in the edited readings text (The Ethical Life). Students will then offer arguments in defense of one position over another and argue why they deem that position as superior to the contrasting view. Students will do this while taking the opposing view seriously and represent the opposing position with precision, in addition to the arguments of the position they favour. This assignment is an exercise in close reading, listening generously, and arguing rigorously.
