Part 1 – Short answer questions
Length: Max. 250 words each (a long paragraph, no more than a page) Worth: 10% each (50% total)
For EACH of the following FIVE (5) quotes, explain what is being discussed in your own words. Contextualize the main ideas in relation to relevant class materials (key movements, concepts, themes, artists/figures, etc…) and discuss the relations between the quote and the given image.

Part 2 – Slide comparison questions
Length: Max. 750 words each (approx. 2-3 pages) Worth: 25% each (50% total)
CHOOSE TWO (2) of the following sets of images. For each set, choose a third image that you see as being connected to the given images and write a short essay. Your response should have a clearly expressed thesis/argument that connects all three images under a uniting theme or issue. Compare and contrast the similarities and differences of the three images, using visual analysis to support your argument. Discuss any important ideas or theoretical issues they raise, and their social/historical contexts, if appropriate. Your answer for each comparison must refer to any relevant key concepts, figures, and at least two assigned Art in Theory readings.
Your choice of the image should be sufficiently different from the others to demonstrate your knowledge of the whole semester. You may choose an image that provides a counter-example to your main argument if appropriate.
Your choice of the image should NOT re-use an image from Part 1 of the exam or from any of the other questions.
