Compare and contrast the two theories on their underlying (or explicit) assumptions about human nature and crime, the level of analysis, and what each theory sees as THE cause of crime.

Choose two theories covered in class (one from group A and one from group B). Compare and contrast the two theories on their underlying (or explicit) assumptions about human nature and crime, the level of analysis, and what each theory sees as THE cause of crime. You will want to include ideas about how the chosen theories may differ in their explanation of violent crime– that being how would Theory A explain the occurrence of violent crime opposed to Theory B (you can focus on a specific violent crime or violent crime in general). You will also want to include some ideas about how each theory would attempt to solve/address the violent crime problem. Depending on the theories you choose, you may find that your theories are similar in some respects- that is ok, just be sure to clearly articulate their differences as well.
Group A: social disorganization, social learning, differential association
Group B: General strain theory, Mertons Anomie, subcultural theory (any of them)

Note: I provided notes from class as well to include in the paper, but class notes need to be cited properly as well.
