Compare and contrast the works in terms of literary analysis.
You can choose works which seem to naturally fit together or you can compare two unexpected authors. You will need to show how they are similar and different in terms of literary style/elements, historical context, and biographical context. Use the graphic organizer you created to help you organize your thoughts.
You will need to discuss and analyze the works in depth, using your knowledge of the historical era and biographical information of the authors to contextualize the works. You will also need to use ample concrete evidence from the texts and carefully chosen support from credible sources in your analysis.
General questions to think about:
• How do the works connect in terms of THEME and other major literary elements?
• How are the structures similar and different, and how does that impact meaning?
• What historical and biographical elements contextualize both works? How do the differences and similarities between the authors/historical situation impact the social, political, or economic framework surrounding the works?
You will be assessed on the following criteria:
• Inclusion of a fully developed, argumentative thesis statement.
• Careful, close analysis of the works and major concepts.
• Ample concrete evidence used to support claims, both from the primary and secondary sources.
• Proper page length, MLA formatting, proper use/number of outside sources, and citations.
• Fully developed essay structure, including significant introduction, clear main ideas, and conclusion.
• Careful and clear organization of all ideas across thematic concepts (rather than a section for each author).
