Compare and contrast two theoretical perspectives that we discussed in class.

Instructions:

Below are three essay questions. You are to answer one of them in a double-spaced, 3-5 page essay due on 28 February by midnight via the Assignments tab in Blackboard. Late submissions will lose points depending on how late they are submitted. The essays must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, as well as having 1” margins all around.

Please answer your question as completely and detailed as possible. Be sure to provide examples, as well as cite any information you bring to the essay from outside of the class; be it articles, movies, and so on. This also means that I expect a Works Cited page at the end of the essay, should you need it. Any citation format works, though APA is preferred.

Questions:

•Compare and contrast two theoretical perspectives that we discussed in class. Be sure to include and explain the central theoretical concepts of each theory. Finally, provide an example in society, or a historical example, and analyze that example through either theory.
•A central tenet of Functionalism is the concept of Anomie. Briefly discuss Functionalism in general, as well as how the concept of Anomie fits into Functionalism more broadly. Be sure to provide examples that showcase Anomie in our contemporary society.
•Describe Hill Collins’ concept of the matrix of domination. Provide examples from our class discussion and elaborate on how this paradigm expands on our knowledge of gender. Why should we consider things like race, class, sexual orientation, and so on when we analyze gender dynamics in society?
