Compare two or more political neophytes (amateurs, people who’ve never before held high public office ) winning elections and examine their legacy in office.

Write your paper in response to the topic below. Be sure to introduce and briefly summarize the relevant text in your introduction. Remember that you’ll be advancing an idea or set of ideas you have about how the reading(s) develops themes or values which are also of importance to our lives out here, outside the text.

Be sure to link your ideas in the body of your essay to textual details which show where you’re deriving your ideas from—“show how you know, what you know.” Related to this, remember that quotes are not self-explanatory: you’ll need to explain to your reader why they mean what you say they do.

First-time office holders (i.e, “amateur” politicians, some of them celebrities). Compare the California governorship of former body-builder Arnold Schwarzenegger to the governorship of former body-builder, wrestler, Navy Seal, etc. Jesse Venture of Minnesota. Or to Donald Trump. Or consider comedian later Senator Al Franken, or former President Ronald Reagan. Or to the president of the Ukraine, or the president of France (Macron). Or pick other first time office holder, and of course you are not limited to those in the U.S.! Your theme is notable first time office holders. Evaluate their goal/aims and the local and national response. Suggestion: introduce your topic by acknowledging the ways in which they are apparently alike; focus your thesis and the body of your paper in examining how what they said or did in office, or say they will do in office, and their political legacy, differs. Consider also the question of non-expert or ‘amateur’ citizen statesman ascending to policy-making power and office: what are the risks and potential benefits of this for the voters?

-Try to edit my repetitions if i bring up something too much
