Concept Mapping: Human Caring within a Technological Environment

Concept Mapping: Human Caring within a Technological Environment

Patient care environments often are intimidating to patients. As nurses and nursing students it is critical to focus on genuine “caring” when interacting with patients to provide comfort and trust. “Caring” has been shown scientifically to promote healing. Reflect on how you currently demonstrate caring to your patients and how in the future, you plan to demonstrate caring when interacting with patient(s) in a highly technological environment.

After reading Chapter 25 “The Art of Caring in Technology-Laden Environments” and viewing “How to Make a Concept Map” create a concept or mind map which depicts characteristics of caring as well as nurse interventions which depict human caring.*

Develop a map using Caring as your central focus.

Next choose any two of Watson’s 10 Caritas Processes from Chapter 25 (p. 596-597) to expand the map.

No right and wrong answers for this exercise.

Use reflection and creativity to create the map! You are the creator so everyone’s maps will look different.

Using Word or a Power Point Slide would be the best option

. (give an example … like holding hands etc) outline to level having students explain. See nursing video
