Conceptualization of Alcoholism

Objective: Compare and contrast conceptualization of alcoholism in their culture versus other culture
Instructions
How an SUD is conceptualized by individuals in a given culture may
differ from the conceptualization of those in another culture. The
differences in conceptualization may impact what needs to be addressed
in treatment.
Read section 3 on Cultural Formulation in your DSM-5, pgs. 749-759.
Select a culture different from yours and consider how that culture has a different conceptualization of alcoholism.
Write
a 3 to 4-page paper on the differences in the conceptualization of
alcoholism in the two cultures. Address the following points:
Identify the differences between the conceptions of alcoholism in your culture vs. another culture.
Show whether the differences are significant and in which ways they differbe concrete, not vague.
Discuss what consequences of alcoholism seem to be most important in each culture.
Include at least two scholarly sources to support your writing.
