Concert Attendance Assignment

You will choose a concert to view online or in a
streaming service. Preferably music from the middle ages.
Here are the directions:
1. Choose a concert. It should be a live (recorded live with
an audience) classical or jazz concert that features classical or jazz music.
Some appropriate genres are symphony, opera, choral, concertos, instrumental or
vocal solo recital, jazz combo, jazz big band, oratorio, motets, madrigals,
latin high mass, dance suites, tone poems, art song recitals, etc…
What is not
appropriate is any pop/country/hip-hop/rap/soul/folk etc… concerts.

You should be able to find many options online on youtube,
metropolitan opera, streaming services on your television, etc…

Your concert must be
approved by me in advance. This is just to be sure you don’t waste your
time with something that does not count for this assignment.

2. Watch the concert. It should be no less than 45 minutes.

3. You will write a report over the concert to include the
following:

-What is
the music? Be specific, you should name the names of ALL the pieces being
played.
– Who are
the performers?
-Who
composed the music?
-What is
the genre of the music?
-What is
the venue of the performance?
-When was
the music composed?
-When did
the performance take place?
-What is
the purpose of the music (entertainment, an occasion, holiday, etc…)
-What are
your impressions and opinion of the music and the performance?
-Why did
you choose this concert to view?
-What was
the reaction of the audience to the performance?

4. The assignment should be no less than two pages and no more than four
pages in length.
