Read the following opinion piece from the Huffington Post. Then write a well-developed essay arguing how these criticisms of the book should or should not change readers’ perceptions and attitudes towards it. Specifically, consider: whether authors have a responsibility to portray people and conditions accurately, even when writing works of fiction; is it ok for authors to write about conditions they “know little about?”; and did Mark Haddon “exploit” the Asperger’s community and/or create a negative stereotype surrounding Asperger’s?
Be sure to include an introduction with a thesis statement, body paragraphs (as many as you need), and a conclusion. Your essay will be graded on thoroughness, accuracy, organization, style, and conventions.
