Consider your own intrinsic ethos. Why should the audience trust you? How can you show you are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and fair as you write to your audience?

For this paper, you will need a total of 10 sources. You will need to use and cite only 5 of your 10 sources in the paper itself, which means that you will have two reference lists at the end of the paper: a list of the works actually cited in the paper, and a list of all of the works you consulted, including those not actually referenced in the paper. Also, you must use at least 3 peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles. Choose an audience to write to who has a stake in the issue. Develop clear reasons for your central claim, keeping in mind who your audience is and what your purpose is for writing.
In your introduction, you will need to convince the audience that the topic is important and that they should care about the topic. You should convey your purpose in your introduction and remind your audience of your purpose throughout the body of your paper. Your introduction should end with your thesis statement.
Consider your own intrinsic ethos. Why should the audience trust you? How can you show you are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and fair as you write to your audience?
Make pro arguments, that is, arguments in favor of your position, while also conceding and refuting opposition arguments. As you provide arguments you need to use ethos, pathos, and logos and lines of argument to build your argument and appeal to your audience. You are trying to convince an audience, so use all of the rhetorical tools at your disposal. “Facts” do not argue by themselves: you must make them convincing to your audience.
Your argument should be organized logically: Begin with an introduction that piques the interest of readers, gives your audience a reason to engage with your argument, and provides a thesis that is an argument stating your position on the problem. Next, provide your audience with any necessary history, and define any terms that are debatable. Now, move into the body of your argument—each body paragraph should provide an arguable topic sentence that you support with evidence and analysis. You can mix in concession and refutation as you write your pro arguments, or you can deal with counterarguments in a separate paragraph. Finally, in your conclusion review your major points and encourage your audience to act according to your purpose.
