1.) Look up and define the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Then explain, in your own words, what this amendment addresses and what it protects.
The Zenger Trial (1735): Freedom of Speech and the Press.
1.) Explain what the Zenger Trial was. Who were the parties involved? What were the accusations and charges? What was the outcome? Explain how the resulting verdict impacted the idea of “freedom of the press.”
2.) Discuss the correlation/relationship between freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Are they one in the same or are they different? Explain.
3.) How important is it to have freedom of the press? How important is it that they have freedom of speech? Do you believe that there could be any underlying or unintended consequences from a press having “too much freedom?” Explain.
4.) Explain what the “spread of misinformation” is. How do you think we, as citizens and a society can combat its spread?” Should there be a law banning the spread of misinformation or do you believe that hinders freedom of speech? Explain your answer.
