Continuous Assessment Speaking

For this assignment you will need to prepare a short presentation (4-6 minutes) using powerpoint slides on the topic of Technology.

Your presentation should have a clear focus. Here are some suggestions:

A single aspect of technology that is relevant to your area of study and which interests you
A specific piece of technology that has solved a specific problem, or had a significant impact on how we live, work or study
An aspect of technology which is under development and will solve a specific problem, or have a significant impact on how we live, work or study in the future
Make sure you outline the purpose of your presentation through a thesis statement in the introduction (i.e. “This presentation will show/argue/demonstrate/explain … etc.”)

Submission

You should create a powerpoint presentation and use the record function within powerpoint. For this you will need to switch on your device’s microphone AND camera functions. You will receive a lower overall mark if you do not share your camera while presenting.

If you are not sure how to use this feature, on Brightspace we have provided a YouTube video that contains instructions on how to record and save your video. You should contact your class teacher BEFORE the deadline if you have any problems with this.

Please export and save your video to your device. It should automatically be saved as an MP4 file, and this is the file you should upload as your submission. You can upload more than one file before the deadline. We will only mark your most recent submission (as long as it is submitted before the deadline).

The mark will be decided based on how well you perform in terms of the following criteria:

Content & Research

The presentation is a suitable length (4-6 minutes). It has a clear purpose/stance and focuses on, and evaluates, a specific aspect of technology. Reliable and appropriate sources have been used to effectively support ideas. Sources are referenced correctly, using Harvard style, both verbally and/or on the slides, and on a final references slide.

Delivery

Share camera and make appropriate eye contact for an online presentation, using gestures where appropriate and not reading from a script. Demonstrate a good level of fluency, naturalness and spontaneity with clear and natural pronunciation.

Organisation & Visual Aids

The presentation has a clear structure. Signposting language is used effectively to link ideas and enable the viewer to follow each section of the presentation, with smooth transitions between ideas. Visuals enhance the presentation of ideas; the text is clear and readable with an appropriate amount of text used on each slide.
