In this week’s resources you heard the absurd statement, “Increased ice cream consumption leads to more drownings.” While the events may be follow a similar trend or pattern, it doesn’t always mean that one event caused the other. Correlation does not always imply causation. Ice cream consumption and the number of people swimming may increase during hot weather, so these events may follow a similar pattern. However, it does imply that ice cream is a killer, leading to the cause of more deaths by drowning.
Your Task
Think about work-related situation where you thought or determine two things or events were related. Provide a post that addresses the following:
Q1: What happened in this situation where you thought two things or events were related? Did one thing or event cause the other to occur?
Q2: What impact did your reasoning have on decision making?
Q3: What have you learned about correlation and causation that could help you with future decision making?
