From page 35: “…Slavery is a major benefit for blacks in the South. They receive food, clothes, and shelter from their masters. They have nothing to worry about. Northern factory workers, on the other hand, are treated unfairly by factory owners and can barely live on their low pay.”
Situation:
The editorial in the Montgomery Daily News has sparked a national uproar. What began with a massive letter writing campaign has become the focus of a national town meeting about slavery. You will have the opportunity to speak your mind on the issue of slavery and to ask questions of any person present at the forum.
Task 1: write a letter to the editor of the Montgomery Daily News. Your letter will be a direct response to the editorial from July 15, 1852. You MUST write the letter from your assigned role.
Paragraph 1: You will explain who you are (based on your role) and how you view slavery (based on your role)
Paragraph 2: You will react specifically to the written editorial, and state WHY you are reacting in that manner.
