• Craft an essay in which you analyze the persuasive strengths of one reading from this unit.
• Persuade your audience how the author of your article delivered an effective argument.
Thesis
• Describe the argument of your paper in one or two sentences (placed at the end of your introduction).
Body Paragraphs – The Point
• Each of the three body paragraphs must build a point about the article you choose by focusing on one of the three rhetorical appeals, otherwise known as a mode of persuasions.
Body Paragraphs – The Analysis
• Each rhetorical appeal (also known as a mode of persuasion) must be supported by direct quotes from the reading and analysis in your own words.
• Each rhetorical appeal (also known as a mode of persuasion) may be supported by one or more of the rhetorical strategies (also known as argument types).
First paragraph is the intro discussing basically what is going to be mentioned in my essay make sure it has a thesis at the end of the introduction paragraph.
Body paragraphs it should be 3
First paragraph talk about how the author use assumptions to portray her point. Which for the crippled story here’s some quotes
” I couldn’t bear the corroboration that those around me were doing in fact what I’d always suspected them of doing, professing fondness while silently putting up with me because of the way I am.” (Mairs,para15)
“The terror that people are kind to me only because I am a cripple.”(Mairs,para7)
For the explanation you can use this one but elaborate more and find more quotes that shows how the writer use assumption in her writing. And here’s an explanation as well ⬇️⬇️
In the reading the writer used a sense of assumptions to portray her point. In both examples, Nancy shows that she is very aware that many individuals will assume that being crippled means she’s very incompetent.
She wants to prove that being crippled doesn‘t stop her from doing A Lot of things like normal people do. She wants to changes society opinion on how they think of disabled people like her. She wants others to treat her as if she was not crippled.
After you explain your gonna pick whether her using assumptions relates to ethos logos or pathos in which in this case she used pathos
Another example I’ve done already you can add it to my essay. ⬇️⬇️
In this article the way assumption was used touched upon a pathos approach.
“On being cripple” the author used pathos to add an emotional approach to her writing, basically giving readers a wake up call.
It shows how messed up society can be when you look different. It Also adds to how society assumes that because you are different you should be treated less than anyone else.
Makes sure you analyze why assumption was used in her writhing.. why is she assuming ? Why is it important? Also why does pathos connect to assumption. Be able to explain how pathos is used in her argument and what does it have to do with assumption.
Second body paragraph is how the author used “claim” to support her point. Be able to explain and quote ways she used claim in her writting in which claim is the main argument of an essay. It is probably the single most important part of an academic paper. The complexity, effectiveness, and quality of the entire paper hinges on the claim. And explain and quote ways claim touched upon a logos approach.
Third body paragraph you have to quote and and explain while arguing how the author used opposition in her writting be able to explain and quote while you argue. You also have to explain how she used ethos to relate to opposition in her writting be able to thoroughly explain and quote how ethos was used.
For all 3 body paragraphs You must build an argument designed to convince your readers of the persuasive strengths of the article you choose.
Next is the conclusion summing up all you talked about
