The goal of this term project is to provide an effective plan in “Demolition of CLA Building”
by considering diverse factors of CPP campus situation. The demolition plans will be created by considering the existing building materials,
building shapes, and existing utilities. provide the most effective and safest logistic plan and decide the
optimum demolition method
GENERAL PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The project generally consists of demolishing a 92,000 sq. ft., 8 story steel frame and concrete
structure with building systems (Tower Building), demolishing an adjacent steel frame
structure with building systems (Registration Building), and rerouting/safing off utilities and
building systems needed for the continuous use of the adjacent Classroom Building and other
Campus connected infrastructure.
Soft Demolitions
– Non-structural elements like interior spaces
o Flooring, non-structural walls, ceiling
Structural Demolitions
– Tower Building and Registration Building
o Basement/foundation
o Shear wall
o Bridges connecting
HOW TO DO:
• Research diverse demolition technology in terms of structure, material, building height,
surrounding environment
o Decide the right methodology or technology for CLA building demolition.
▪ You may need research works on diverse demolition methods and
find out what would be the best way to do.
• Demolition Phases
o Describe step by step plan as considering surrounding conditions on campus
and safety regulation.
o Provide graphical demolition plans based on phases.
How?
The demolition plan. FInding a plan on what we need to be done to demolish it. And to add to anything else that you find relevant
– Demolition technology research.
– Understanding the CLA building cal poly pomona and its descriptions through the given
drawings
o Material
o Framing construction details
– Demolition phases by considering diverse constraints and factors.
o What would be constraints and factors that impact on this project?
o Soft demolition & structural demolition
o Step by step demolition phases (figures and images are definitely
preferred)
– Demolition technology decision
o Soft demolition
o Structural demolition
o Methods to meet AQMD requirements.
– Conclusion
o Summarize what your team has achieved through this project.
o What do you learn from this project?
o What are the issues you have during this project?
