Prepare for this assignment by reading “Writing Stories” in Write Moves (pages 156-169).
Choose one of the activities listed in the “Your Moves” section (pages 169-172).
Draft and edit a creative work of fiction. The “facts” are up to you. What do your characters want? What will they do to get it? What conflict will they face? Its all up to you.
Word count is less important than creative energy. Instead of focusing on the number of words, try to compose something that is interesting and well-crafted, using ideas from the reading to help you. (Note: Later you will write about your learning experience, and how you used the reading to help you write the story.)
After completing your Creative Play with fiction, write a short essay (approximately 250 words) about what you learned from the chapter “Writing Stories” (pages 156-169) and how you applied that knowledge to your journal entry.
Your purpose here is not to write creatively, but to think critically. Refer to the textbook (especially “Writing Stories” on pages 156-169), using direct quotes or paraphrases, to explain your learning experience. Use proper MLA in-text citations (like the first line of this assignment prompt); a Works Cited page is not required.
