The purpose of this essay is to develop both an awareness of the contemporary educational scene as
well as to provide an opportunity for you to define your relation to its challenges and possibilities.
To this end, we have considered the writings of various authors (seven in al), including a brief
discussion of the paradigm/ paradigm shift concept (see BB Content). Realizing that you cannot
wisely discuss every author we have studied in such a brief paper, which authors specifically seem to
illuminate for you our current educational context as well as illuminate aspects of your identity as a
teacher/ educator/citizen? Do you, for example, grasp the significance of education’s etymology, and
if so, what is its significance? Has the covid-19 pandemic sharpened your awareness of what should
be prioritized in the schools today? Have the Nussbaum, Ravitch and Brown chapters given you any
insights into the dynamics of our contemporary historical moment, and if so, how exactly?
