Humanity cannot seem to escape the tendency to inflict great harm on one another. Probably the greatest, most infamous example of such harm is genocide. In fact, the last century witnessed an unparalleled incidence of genocide.
Your task in this paper is to think more deeply on why such evil continues to plague humanity.
Read the 2 brief articles attached (“Staub: Is Evil a Useful Concept”? and “Nice people and Evildoers”….. chapter 11 in Worthington will also guide you) as you also reflect on the Rwandan genocide and in The Question of God (e.g., Freud = humans have a destructive instinct, Thanatos; CS Lewis identifies “free will”).
When you write, you may also want to incorporate additional sources on the scriptural understanding(s) of human nature and evil.
Your end goal? Create an integrated understanding of the “problem of evil” through the psychological and the spiritual (Christian) viewpoints.
Please note: this will be a challenging paper to write and don’t think you have to cover every idea in the readings and videos.
