Culture, me and others
In what sense am I cultural? Read Baldwin et al. (chapters 11-13), Piller (chapters 4 and 6), Dahl et al. (p. 25-40, 103-116). They help you understand and reflect on your own (sub/co-)cultural identity and its effects in your life. Use these assignment essays to introduce and define at least three relevant concepts in each essay – and exemplify them from your own life. Write two essays (three pages each) on the following themes:
My multiple selves. A conceptual self-reflection on cultural identities.
On foreign ground. A conceptual self-relfection on cultural otherness (e.g experiences from going abroad – studies, travelling, living, migration etc.) and/ or encountering cultural otherness within the own sphere.
Please note that you should not include chapters that are used in the other assignments in this course. You are expected to mention which chapters in the books you are using.
