APA format for in-text citation is at the end of the sentence (McRae & Short, 2010).

For instance, McRae and Short (2010) suggested that race and culture be brought to the forefront of every group at the inception.
McRae and Short (2010) stated “When group workers have an understanding of their own identity and history and what it might represent for those in the group, they can be more in touch with those in the group” (p. __). When you use a direct quote from any author, you need to include the page or paragraph number if there is no page number to make the citation correct. Within the sentence, use the word and.
A direct quote could also look like this-
“When group workers have an understanding of their own identity and history and what it might represent for those in the group, they can be more in touch with those in the group” (McRae & Short, 2010, p. 63). Within the reference, use the and symbol.
