Data analysis is key for discovering credible findings from implementing nursing studies. Discussion and conclusions can be made about the meaning of the findings from the data analysis.
Share what you learned about descriptive analysis (statistics), inferential analysis (statistics), and qualitative analysis of data; include something that you learned that was interesting to you and your thoughts on why data analysis is necessary for discovering credible findings for nursing.
Compare clinical significance and statistical significance; include which one is more meaningful to you when considering application of findings to nursing practice.

Through this course, I have learned that descriptive analysis is a statistical method used to summarize and describe the main characteristics of a dataset. This type of analysis provides a way to understand the basic properties of the data and identify any patterns or trends that may be present. Inferential analysis, on the other hand, is a statistical method used to draw conclusions about a population based on a sample of data. This type of analysis is used to test hypotheses and make predictions, such as whether a particular intervention has a statistically significant effect on patient outcomes.
Qualitative analysis is a method used to analyze non-numerical data, such as interviews or observations, to identify patterns and themes. This type of analysis is particularly useful in nursing research, as it allows researchers to explore complex phenomena, such as patient experiences and perceptions of care (Houser, 2023). Something interesting that I learned about data analysis is that there are many different statistical methods and techniques that can be used depending on the type of data being analyzed and the research question being asked such as t-tests and ANOVA.
Data analysis is necessary for discovering credible findings for nursing because it allows researchers to draw evidence-based conclusions about the effectiveness of interventions, the prevalence of health conditions, and the experiences of patients and healthcare providers (Rouleau et al., 2019). By using rigorous statistical methods and techniques, researchers can ensure that their findings are accurate and reliable, and can be used to inform clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
According to Benjamin et al. (2018), clinical significance and statistical significance are two different concepts that are often used in nursing research. Clinical significance refers to whether a finding has practical importance or relevance to patient care. Statistical significance, on the other hand, refers to whether a finding is unlikely to have occurred by chance. While both clinical and statistical significance are important, I believe that clinical significance is more meaningful when considering the application of findings to nursing practice.
