Cross-Tabulation and Chi-Square (5 points)
In the ‘Chi-Square’ worksheet, complete a 2×2 cross-tabulation table of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and SUD (substance use disorder). (1 pt.)
Create a response table of observed and expected values. (1 pt.)
Conduct a chi-square analysis. (1 pt.)
Write up the results, including the number and percentages of persons from the 2×2 table, as well as whether the relationship between PTSD and SUD was statistically significant. (2 pts.)
T-Test (5 pts.)
Consider the following scenario. A group of 30 social workers are currently employed in an inpatient behavioral healthcare setting. Their supervisor has noted that they are experiencing high amounts of burnout, which has contributed to a recent increase in turnover. The supervisor seeks approval from the administrator and board of directors to host an intensive seminar on self-care. The pre-test was taken prior to the intervention, and a post-test was taken 30 days following the receipt of the seminar. The seminar included a full 2-day training, along with 4 weekly follow-ups.
Complete the following steps using the sample data in the ‘T-Test’ worksheet.
First, compute the mean burnout scores and standard deviations at pre- and post-test. (1 pt.)
Next, identify whether an independent or dependent t-test should be used to calculate the mean differences from pre- to post-test. (1 pt.)
Conduct the appropriate t-test. (1 pt.)
Write up the results in APA formatting, and be sure to include the mean and standard deviations at pre- and post-, the results of the t-test, and an interpretation on the effectiveness of the self-care intervention. (2 pts.)
One-Way ANOVA (5 pts.)
Consider the following scenario. You are an intervention researcher, and you wanted to conduct a research study examining the impact of EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing). You recruit a sample of 60 participants, and randomly assign them into three groups:
Group 1: Receives no tx (treatment) and are placed on a wait-list to receive EMDR following the 60-day intervention period;
Group 2: Receives psychoeducation; and
Group 3: Receives 10 sessions of EMDR over a 60-day period.
Open the ‘ANOVA’ worksheet. The data has been organized for you by the three groups. The data represents only post-test scores at the end of the 60-day period for each of the three groups. The codebook indicates that PTSD scores from ’46-50’ are high, scores from ‘41-45’ are moderate, and scores from ’36-40’ are low, or non-clinical levels of PTSD.
Compute the means and standard deviations for each of the three groups. (2 pts.)
Conduct a one-way ANOVA and report the results by providing: the means and standard deviations for each of the three groups, the results of the one-way ANOVA, and an interpretation. (3 pts.)
BONUS (2 pts.)
Compute post-hoc tests to examine why the one-way ANOVA ‘F’ test was significant. Report the results in APA format. (2 pts.)
Submit your excel spreadsheet with the outputs of your analyses, as well as a word document with the APA write up of your results.
