Please write a realistic Leadership Development Plan (LDP) for the next 12 months or so (through to November/December, 2022), taking into account your most probable personal and professional situation over this time period. Where there is some possibility of a change in your situation (e.g., a major change in your life or work circumstances – changes in homelife, internship, part-timework, or even relationship status!) indicate how you would adapt your plan accordingly.
Please write an absolute maximum of 1,000 words, distributed across the sections of this Plan approximately as indicated in the square brackets [ ] below. You may use bullet points and phrases rather than full sentences, as long as the meaning of what you write is clear. There is no mark for writing style in this assignment. However, if you exceed the word count (which includes words in headings, tables and figures), the instructor will only mark those words in section 3 that fall within the absolute word limit of 1,000 words for the overall LDP.
Please use at least size 12 font and 1.5 spacing in your LDP. Add the “LDP cover page” to the front of your LDP (these words are not counted in the word count) and keep it as Word document when you upload it.
Requirements for the three Sections – as they relate to the assessment criteria (on the next page).
1. Your goal [~300 words]
Define a single goal that you want to achieve in terms of a leadership quality or leadership skill-set you wish to improve across the next 12 months. Specifically, what will achievement of this goal lead to, or result in?
What is the personal importance of achieving this goal? (i.e., why is this goal especially important for you – in terms of your career, professional or personal ambitions {or a combination of these}?
2. Actions, timeframe and resources [~400 words]
Describe the practical actions that you will take in order to achieve your goal, and the timeframe for completion of these actions. (i.e., What will you actually do? What steps will you personally take?)
Describe the resources you will need to support those actions. These may include:
• support from others (identify the individuals and/or their job position or other personal or professional relationship to you)
• actions or behaviour of others (e.g., provision of certain training courses) *
• access to certain materials (hard copy and/or on-line)
• time considerations
• financial considerations
* Note that it should be feasible for you to access these resources in the next 12 months. If your actions rely on something or someone outside your immediate control, write alternative resources you can access if these resources are not provided.
3. Milestones and evaluation criteria [~300 words]
Describe milestones for at least two timeframes within the 12-month period (i.e., before the end of the 12 months). Milestones are tasks that you will accomplish or results that you will achieve. The timeframes do not have to be at exactly 4 and 8 months, but they should be the most relevant for the milestone (e.g., you may need to join, or carry out, a certain activity in the first months, or have certain leadership experiences towards the end of the period, in order for your overall plan to succeed).
Describe how you will evaluate the degree to which you achieved your goal at the end of the 12-month period. What will you actually do to measure how well the goal was met? How will you know how successful you have been?
Note: There is no need to use any reference material for this LDP. However, if you do include material from any other source, please cite the source within the Plan and put a reference list at the back of your LDP. Words in this reference list are not included in the word count.
