POST 1:
1. Define and identify types of internal and external forces of change.
Internal
The types of internal forces will vary based on the organization, but mostly are influenced internally and the organization is in control.
Low performance: an organization may be having difficulty performing in certain functions, or departments. This may lead to layoffs or leadership/management changes.
Low satisfaction: May refer to low satisfaction levels of staff, customers, shareholders.
New mission: From what I have witnessed to stay competitive or even to diversify, or restructure, a company may invest in a new mission.
New Leadership: is an internal force of change that can have a big impact. If a team, department, or company is not performing to a certain level there may be leadership reassignment or replacements.
Conflict: can take place among colleagues, leadership or subordinates and can impact how those members of the team may perform as a result.
External
External forces of change can be unpredictable or could be obvious and based off my research into external forces, they can be plentiful and happen often (Freedom Learning Group, 2020). In my opinion, technology, one of the external forces of change, is growing so rapidly resulting in businesses having to keep up with demand and constantly monitoring this external force of change to remain proactive in protecting their systems.
Social: changes can impact an organization, as society changes
Natural Disaster: cannot be avoided and in some cases cannot be predicted. Natural disasters can heavily impact supply chain by making transit impossible.
Demographic: A changing work demographic might require an organizational change in culture (Freedom Learning Group, 2020).
Political: forces of change have an impact on the organization, for example the COVID policy changes that required masks and essential workers travel restriction was a large impact because of political forces.
Economical: external forces can influence organizational change; the most recent example of an economical force are companies offering higher starting wages and sign-on bonuses to fill positions because of the labor shortages.
Technology: can be controlled internally to the effect of a company may procure new or updated technology. However external forces will dictate the significance and frequency.

2. Define change management, define innovation, and then discuss and analyze the relationship between these two concepts.
Innovation can be a powerful tool to transform business and can mean the leadership must be willing and competent in knowing how to think and act differently (Thyagarajan, 2021)
Change management is the application of the structured process and set of tools for leading the people side of change to achieve a desired outcome (Prosci, 2021).
Innovation is the concept that inspires new or updated product(s) and brings new business often resulting in necessary change in the organization. Change management can be associated to innovation in that change management follows innovation as the new or updated product must be integrated to the organizations process and workflow.
3. Describe a recent change that has had the most impact on your school life, community or work. Discuss whether the forces driving that change were external, internal or both. Identify and discuss which forces you will most likely influence your future personally and why will it be important for you to develop your personal adaptability and ability to innovate.
The most recent change that has had an impact on my work life is a mask/face covering mandate from my employer because of the latest Covid reports and resulting recommendations. This is an internal force of change because it’s being controlled by our internal human resources dept. based off recommendations from the government. However, since the government issued this mandate it would also be an external force of change – because of the government’s influence on my human resources department.
While I am not particularly happy about wearing a mask these types of changes are for a reason and adapting to these changes are not that difficult.

POST 2:
Define and identify types of internal and external forces of change.
Change is inevitable for anything and everything. This includes companies and businesses. However, there are different types of sources that drive change within a business or company. First off there are internal forces that cause change. One major force is people whose focus changes. According to Management study guide “In this context, the major focus is laid on people and their existing competencies, human resource planning strategies, structural changes and employee reorientation and replacement of an employee which mean shifting an employee to a different work arena where his/her skills are best suited. It may also be involving establishing new recruitment policies and procedures in line with the changes in the technology.” (Juneja, 2015) Another Internal force of change is structural changes. These changes come from changing the overall structure of a company’s work force. This may come in the form of downsizing, job redesign, decentralization and more.
Just like internal forces of change there are also external forces of change. An example of an external force could be political forces. According to Management Study Guide “With the rapidly changing global political scenario and the upheavals in the global politics, the worldwide economy is equally undergoing a quick change and presenting several challenges before the organization in the form of changes in regulations, policies and also the economic framework in the form of globalization and liberalization.” (Juneia, 2015) Another big external force of change could be economic forces. This force has the power to present opportunities or challenges towards a company. Some factors in this force could be business cycle, inflation or deflation, fluctuation in the interest rates, and much more.
Define change management, define innovation, and then discuss and analyses the relationship between these two concepts.
According to Tim Stobierski at Harvard business school “Organizational change management is the method of leveraging change to bring about a successful resolution, and it typically includes three major phases: Preparation, implementation, and follow-through.” (Stobierski, 2020)
According to Peter Drucker from Harvard Business Review “Innovation is the specific function of entrepreneurship, whether in an existing business, a public service institution, or a new venture started by a lone individual in the family kitchen. It is the means by which the entrepreneur either creates new wealth-producing resources or endows existing resources with enhanced potential for creating wealth.” (Drucker, 2002)
One key aspect to realize with these two concepts is that innovation always needs change, however change does not always need innovation. Change usually comes in the form of an outside or inside force making the company change. Innovation is usually a concept that may help improve a company’s structure, or process. Innovation is not necessarily brought on by a need for change but a desire to change.
Describe a recent change that has had the most impact on your school life, community, or work. Discuss weather the forces driving that change were external, internal, or both. Identify and discuss which forces you will most likely influence your future personally and why will it be important for you to develop your personal adaptability and ability to innovate.
I work as a law enforcement officer in the state of Michigan. The biggest change for our career field came a few years back with the George Floyed incident. Although Michigan had already dropped the practices that were used that day our departments in Michigan and around the country still needed to make some changes. These changes were coming form both external and internal forces due to the demand for change and the innovation of police work from inside the department. I choose to listen more to internal forces due to the nature of wanting to better my organization through innovation and change within the ranks. If I continue to allow all external forces to dictate how I run my organization or business I will fold and go under because no one knows the organization or business better than those that work in it.
From a business perspective, identify and discuss which forces are influencing and will influence a business that is facing change. Identify and discuss which strategic options would you pursue and why for a business organization, such as cost leadership, differentiation, niche, or diversification.
There are many forces that influence change within a business. A few of those changes may be economic decline or growth, workforce shortage, innovation, and much more. In businesses today we are seeing a shortage of employees due to unemployment benefits which in return is causing shortages at businesses and shortened business hours. I would pursue the differentiation strategy due to the fact that I can provide a valuable product that other businesses due no offer. This makes my business a unique business that provides a product consumers need, and others do not provide. This would keep my business in computation with others and would allow for growth and expansion in the future.
