Define fracking and describe some of the negative health effects associated with the practice.
The top gas industry executives argue that government regulation would be bad for the fracking industry and would lower profits. Do you think fracking can be regulated or should it be banned outright? If you think fracking can be regulated, explain what protections you would like to see put in place to protect citizens and the environment. If you do not believe fracking can be regulated and should be banned outright, explain your reasoning.
Many who support fracking argue that fracking in countries with large reserves of shale gas will lead to “energy independence,” meaning that countries currently relying on oil imports from the Middle East will be less dependent on foreign energy in the future. Is this a valid argument? Is this a justification for fracking practices?
Option B: Concealed Carry
In 2013, the Texas legislature passed a law allowing concealed weapons on campuses and permitting guns to be stored in vehicles (if authorized by the college beforehand). Part of the push for this law came from a shooting at Lone Star-North Harris in 2013 where three people were severely injured by a campus shooter.
