Define the holistic approach and why is it so valuable to this discipline.

Briefly
describe the four fields of anthropology.
Define
the holistic approach and why is it so valuable to this discipline.
How do
the fields relate to the holistic approach taken by the field of
anthropology?
PART 2:
First, review the links below
Before addressing the DQ, please read through the
topics, starting here.

What is Culture?
Characteristics of Culture
Methods for Learning about Culture

After going through the tutorial on Culture, what are some of the characteristics of culture? Why do we need it (or, why can we
not just operate on instinctive behaviors)?
What
are the advantages of having culture?

PART 3:
DIRECTIONS: Choose one of the following questions and write
a short (500-ish) essay. Please use paragraph format, with full
sentences, appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Each question
has multiple parts–be sure to answer all the parts. Please use quotes
and citations as necessary, and include references.

Essay (Choose One Topic Only):
Topic One: What is Anthropology?
Why
study anthropology? What are its goals, and how is it useful?
Based
on your answer above, how does anthropology differ from other fields of
study you have encountered that deal with humans (Compared with
psychology, sociology, political science, history or biology among
others)?

Topic Two: Culture
One
property of Culture is that Culture is Holistic. All the parts fit together. We say: “if you change one part of culture the other
parts will change.” Anthropologists can make guesses about other parts of culture based on knowing one part.
I
often say, “an anthropologist can tell you about your socio-economic
status (your income or your class) by knowing where the garage for your
house is located.” How is this true? Use specific examples (for instance, if you live in Buffalo, you have likely eaten Beef on a Weck).
