By writing a Definition Essay, we have the opportunity to share with others our opinions about topics and our reasoning to support these viewpoints. “What am I trying to accomplish with this piece of writing?” and “What do I need to do to write an effective essay that my professor will enjoy reading? focus on what you want the writing to do, like “I want to show someone why my definition of poverty is a reasonable one.” The purpose of the essay is basic to all other decisions you will make about writing and revising., you are going to create an essay that sets out to define what you think Poverty is. Be sure to also make reference to at least two sources from our module. Be sure to define what your viewpoint of poverty is (this will be your thesis or position). Remember, there is no correct definition…just the viewpoint you choose to take on the issue.
