Demographic transition aligns population patterns with four stages of
economic development. High birth rates and low death rates indicate a
country is in stage one, which often means individuals in that area may
experience low life expectancy, unsanitary living conditions, and
challenges accessing medical care. For this activity, use a sociological
lens to analyze the implications of birth and death rates on two
countries at different demographic transition stages. For example, you
may consider how the Baby Boom after World War II affected the economy,
technological advancements, and social relations in the United States.
In a 2- to 5-minute video, (you will write the essay, and I will create the video) use one to two major concepts and
theories and appropriate terminology from the text to determine and
analyze each country’s demographic transition stage. Be sure to (1)
explain each concept, theory, and term applied, and (2) differentiate
between the effects of each stage in each country. For example, how are
the countries at different stages alike or similar regarding social
movements, gender and racial equality, and education level?
