Strategies for Implementation
Now that you have identified your question and area of interest for your study, and considered the demographics of both your site and participants, you need to make some choices about the best strategies to try in order to affect change and find “answers” to your question. Many of these ideas will arise organically from your experiences in the classroom and the impressions that you have developed as you have thought and reflected on your question and professional experiences. Other ideas will come to you through reading and reviewing the research literature that is present in your area of interest and identifying ideas that are potentially helpful in your setting.
Action research (AR) seeks to identify and implement changes to educational practice that can improve learning and teaching outcomes. The “what” that is implement is critical to determining whether any useful change takes place. Think carefully about ideas for what you might try, keeping in mind that it must be a natural and achievable part of practice. You do not want to create and develop an idea that is so complicated that it is impossible for you to effectively implement those ideas in the classroom or other educational setting. Because AR is something that you are doing to improve practice, you want to be able to keep the practice moving forward at the same time that you are trying something new – finding alignment between these pieces is key to helping you find value and usefulness in the processes of action research.
