Written in scholarly tone. This
is NOT an opinion paper and should not include “I” or “me” or “you.” These
words have no place in scientific writing. The paper is FACT based, hence
the reference page.
Proper APA format. Title Page,
1-2 paragraphs that introduce the concept or “thesis” of the paper and the
main points that will be explained, several paragraphs should make up “the
Body” using headings (see example), the paper should finish by restating
the purpose of the paper and the points that were discussed to create 1 –
2 paragraphs as the “conclusion,” followed by the Reference page (last
page).
Font should be ‘Times New Roman’
or ‘Caliber,’ 12 pt, normal margins, double-spaced (see example).
At least 2-4 credible resources.
This could be from a book (or the textbook) or a nursing or government
website (no Wikipedia, blogs, message boards). Credible sources have
authors, dates, references of their own to demonstrate the evidence of the
paper. If you are unsure if a source is credible, ask the instructor or
the librarians in Info Commons or the Writing Center. Students have access
to Brain Fuse on the Gateway section of the college website. Students are
encouraged to have their papers proofread using Brain Fuse or the Writing
Center, Purdue Owl is another good source for APA style.
Proofread the paper prior to
submitting. Paper should be free of spelling and grammar errors. Cannot
contain sentence fragments or run-on sentences.
No more than 1 direct quotation
and only if properly introduced (see resources on Class Path regarding APA
format).
