Choose either: 1. Mountain Building Events of the Cordillera
2. Geology of the Cordillera Terranes 3. Mountain Landscapes The breadth and
direction of your research is up to you. You can choose to: • Summarize an
overview of the sequence/timing of events that formed the Western Cordillera or
pick a specific mountain building event and describe in detail. • Describe
where and how the different belts formed. • Describe detailed geological
characteristics of a terrane (summarize research and scientific papers on
specific terrane). • Construct a geological road guide or hiking guide
explaining the geological features (must be different than what was shown in
class and cannot be copied verbatim from road guide or hiking guide… I will check!).
Use your own field pictures/video! • Describe the geological characteristics of
the mountain landscape. You can describe a specific mountain or mountain range,
and discuss the rock types/formations, how they were deposited, how they formed
mountains today (uplift and erosion processes). • Describe periods of
glaciation and how it affected the mountainous landscape. You can describe a
specific ice sheet or glacier, discuss historical events and trends associated
with glaciation, characterize geomorphological landforms produced by glaciers
and their movement, etc. Your project should be informational for the
reader/viewer. It should show me what you have learned
