Describe, in detail, how the play that you are critiquing addresses each of your chosen Perspectives. Each perspective covered should have a separate paragraph. Aristotle’s Six Parts of Drama: You must include an introductory paragraph – include the name of the play, the place you saw it, the director and date of the production. Do not give include a summary of the story. Choose two of the following six Aristotelian Elements (Six Parts of Drama), and write about how they were used in the play that you are critiquing. PLOT – Plot describes what happens in a play; the order of events. It is the story as opposed to the theme – what happens rather than what it means. Again, this is not a summary of the story, but rather a discussion of how the order of events contributes to the overall understanding/effectiveness of the play. THEME – Theme is what the play means as opposed to what happens (plot); it is the main idea contained within the play. CHARACTER – Character describes the personality of the part an actor represents in a play ( the role played by an actor in a play), and how that character, and the actor’s embodiment of that character, enhances the effectiveness of the play. DICTION/LANGUAGE/DIALOGUE – This element includes the word choices made by the playwright , the literary elements, and the enunciation of the actors delivering the lines. MUSIC/RHYTHM – by music Aristotle meant All sound, rhythm and melody of the speeches and other elements of the play – All Patterned Sound.
