1. In this class, we regularly discuss health disparities. As defined by the CDC, these are “preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to achieve optimal health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations.” After reading Kessler (2015) and Maslin Nir (2015), listen to this NIEHS podcast, ‘Chemicals in Personal Care Products.'(https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/supported/translational/peph/podcasts/2014/sept14_consumer-health/index.cfm). (Note: it’s only about 7 minutes long.) Explain ways that high levels of toxins used in personal care products in the U.S. might have implications for health disparities.
