Hello class,
Your first Discussion Board will be focused on Using chapter 1 as a reference and source of examples, answer the following questions with detail. Provide support for your arguments and elaborate on the connections to geography.
1. Describe real examples for each: formal, functional and vernacular regions. Be creative and detailed in your description. Use local and regional examples and provide detail
2. Using the “Map Scale”, imagine you are hiking and using a map with a scale of 1:24,000. If you plan out a route, measure it and find that it is 10 inches total on the map, what is the actual distance you will walk on that route? (give your answer in Miles and show your work)
3. Go to page 33 in your text and read the DEBATE IT GPS Location Services section. What side of the debate to you take? Why, describe your argument.
4. Go to page 40 in your text and read sustainable and unsustainable ecosystems section. What environmental issues does California face? Research a local example and describe what has been done to protect it, and what alternatives have been made.
5. After reading pages 24, describe the similarities and differences between post structural, humanistic and behavioral geography.
6. Describe how modern map makers create digital maps of the world and describe the tools and methods they use
After posting your answers (forum will be blank until you post your own answers), you will reply to at least 2 other students posts and discuss the region they chose and provide critical/supportive feedback. Communicate and ask questions, do not leave simple leave an uninspired canned sentence as your response, start a dialog!
