Introduction & Needs/Problem Statement – (5-7 pages)
In this APA formatted written work you will describe your program’s target population and the community to be served (include demographic data, population size, number to be served by the program). You will also demonstrate the need for the proposed program – use available data (national, state, and local when available). Describe service gaps and barriers and how those gaps and barriers were identified. If data to quantify the need are not available, describe how you will assess needs. Provide information about existing services in the community that serve the target population and are relevant to the proposed program. Find at least one published article about a program that serves a similar population and describe the program and its success, or failure.
Consider finding articles/information that addresses the following questions in order to help you organize this section:
The nature and extent of the problem (What is the need? Who is experiencing it? That is, describe the target population and community to be served. Look for demographic data, population size, census data and number to be served).
Factors contributing to the problem (What are the underlying causes of the problem or need? Resources that already exist? Barriers/gaps that exist?
The impact of the problem or need (Why is the problem a problem? What are the consequences of not addressing the problem? Why is meeting this need/barrier/gap important?)
Promising approaches for addressing the problem (What approaches have been successful in other areas? Are there existing services in the community that serve the target population and are relevant to your proposed program?)
REFERENCES: Cite all outside resources according to APA format. You must include at least 5 peer-reviewed scholarly resources (not just websites or books, etc.)
