Describe some ways that you personally can live more sustainably.

For Paper #1, you are to come up with your own understanding of what sustainability means from the perspective of environmental humanities: looking at the humanities — how people process and document the human experience through philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language — through the lens of environmental issues or vice versa — looking at environmental issues through the lens of the humanities . Consider the definitions, readings, and your discussions (found in the weekly Overviews).
In order to demonstrate your understanding of what sustainability means, your paper should include the following prompts:
Demonstrate an understanding of the term “sustainability”. What does sustainability mean? What does it mean to you? Describe some ways that you personally can live more sustainably. What are some of the challenges of creating a “sustainable city” (example: Babcock Ranch).
How do the topics we have covered in class relate to creating a more sustainable future? Include a few other examples of how human ingenuity is helping to create a more sustainable present and future.
To write a stronger paper, be sure to include a few quotes from Rachel Carson, Richard Louv and/or David Boyd. (You can find quotes using a search engine. Include your own interpretation of the quotes you choose).
