Please write an APA style Method section and Results section for your Survey Study that you conducted last week. Please make sure that you use APA style and include all of the important information about your study so that someone else could read your Methods section and replicate your study. Make sure to read the information on the ‘How to Analyze your Data’ page, ‘How to Write an APA Style Method Section’ page, and ‘How to Write and APA Style Results Section’ before you begin.
Method Section
Remember from the video that this is the basic recipe for your study and that a critical component of empirical research is that other researchers should be able to replicate your study and find similar results to yours.
Please include the following sections:
Participants
Include sample size, participant characteristics, sampling method, recruitment method.
If you used inclusion criteria, describe that here.
Materials
Describe your closed-ended survey, including:
What it measured, the number of questions, at least two sample questions, the rating scale used (e.g., 5-point Likert scale) and the response options.
Design and Procedure
State the design used.
Describe the procedures – what did your participants experience from beginning to end of the study? Include a brief description of the informed consent form, the instructions provided, and the debriefing form.
Results Section
Briefly describe how the data was analyzed.
Present the descriptive statistics in APA style tables.
Categorical Data: Create a frequency table. This should include the number of participants that selected each response option.
This will include gender/sex and race/ethnicity from the demographic survey.
It will also include the categories for variable 3. If you collected this using categorical response options, you just need to report how many selected each category. If you collected quantitative data, you first need to create categories (see page on how to analyze your data).
Quantitative Data: Report the range, mean, SD, median, mode (*for each group*).
This will include age from the demographic survey, the two personality traits, plus any additional quantitative data that you collect.
For example, if variable 3 is gender (male, female, non-binary), you will summarize the personality trait statistics for each group. What is the range, mean, SD, median, and mode for personality trait 1 in males? In females? In non-binary individuals? Repeat for the other personality trait.
Describe the descriptive statistics in writing and interpret the pattern of results.
For example: “On average, participants stated that they were somewhat likely or very likely to read a book recommended by a friend (M = 2.5, SD = 0.82).”
Please note the format for reporting the M and SD in parentheses. You do not have to discuss the SD, but you should report it.
Describe and interpret the pattern of results from your open-ended questions.
Summarize the results.
Taken together, what do the results show?
Do they appear to support or contradict your hypothesis?
Please note: in order to actually determine whether your results support your hypothesis, you would need to use inferential statistics.
