One of the most profitable sections of a hotel is its bar and restaurant. An effective and popular bar can bring in a tremendous amount of money. Some hotel bars in Las Vegas, for example, can generate more than $100,000 in one evening. While they may be profitable, they can also result in a spectacular failure.
Given your knowledge of the bar and beverage industry, assess the following:
Describe the effect and impact of the bar/beverage operation within the hospitality industry. In other words, to what degree do bars/beverages contribute to the success of a hotel?
Describe the success and failure factors that are the primary reason why some bar/beverage operations succeed, and others fail.
Find/select one bar that you have become aware of. Describe the mission of that bar and describe 2-3 strategies that have made that bar a success (what its competitive advantage is).
Finally, present and explain one action or strategy that a bar must avoid if it is to remain successful over the long term.
