Describe the efforts by scholars in terms of Thucdidian trap. So, I am writing this article in connection with that the trade war between the US and China.
My essay is more likely to close to the topic Thucydides and international realism than Thucydides in his time vs. Present.
Did I properly choose the topic? I am kind of confused with two topics
FEEDBACK OF PAPER PROPOSAL(ATTACHED)
Thesis: C+ (More a research question than thesis)
Writing: B (Very good, just a few minor issues)
Research: B+ (Quite strong – just make sure to include Thucydides)
This was a very good paper proposal on Thucydides in our time. Your thesis statement appears to be that Thucydides is still useful today due to the concept of the Thucydidian trap, which is certainly valid, just make sure to state it in a direct manner. The strength of your paper is the research. It is very good, and the only major recommendation I would make is to include Thucydides in your sources since it’ll help demonstrate his utility by being able to refer to specific passages. Your writing was generally quite strong, and if you combine it with a strong thesis statement and keep up your research you’re well on your way to writing a very good or even excellent final paper.
THIS IS WHAT MY PROFESSOR MENTIONED
-Counter arguments are actually quite important in research papers, so having ones that challenge your assumptions are equally valid. When looking at them, think of questions like how the person is arriving at a different perspective? What evidence are they using? Does it fundamentally challenge your argument, or simply a portion of it? Answering questions like that can help elevate a paper, not detract from it. Make sure you only have one argument – the thesis and sticking to your argument is a key portion of the grade
-One of the themes of the course is how receptions of Thucydides have differed over time. For that potential essay topic you would choose one of the sub topics, otherwise given the paper length you’d likely be summarizing points versus making an argument.
