For this assignment, review the video entitled: The struggle for survival of the Roma people: Europes most hated from the Readings page in this module.
Understand the global issue and the Roma people,
Rethink the meaning of cultural competence in ISW,
And, consider how the definition of global social work might change in conceptualizing of the dynamics of power, oppression, and justice in relationships between the social workers and clients in international settings.
Grading Criteria
Write a 2-3 page paper that includes the following elements:
Introduce the purpose and the topics you intend to address in the paper.
Describe the global issue, including at least two characteristics of Roma people or circumstances of their culture that contribute to the plight for their survival in Europe.
In considering those characteristics, explain two components of cultural competence in ISW that seem important for social workers to consider in this case relative to power, oppression, and justice.
Based on a global definition of social work, discuss briefly how ISW might be conceptualized within the context of power, oppression, and justice to address the plight of Roman people to survive in Europe.
