Purpose
Apply the scientific method based on available ecological data
Communicate the results of inquiry and generate new questions based on findings.
Procedure:
1. Chose an environment outside your home. This can be your backyard, a garden, a park, etc. You will be visiting this location and collecting data 4 times in the semester. You will then present your observations at the end of the semester to the class.
Visit #1: Observe: Interactions Between Abiotic (non-living) and Biotic (living)
Data Collection: Answer the questions below
List the abiotic and biotic factors you observe
Describe the interactions between abiotic and biotic factors. Note the time of day and weather (temperature, precipitation, wind), sunlight, and availability of water.
Describe the organisms in your chosen environment. What domain of life do they belong to? Are they producers, consumers, or decomposers?
Describe the interactions between organisms. For example, plants and insects, fungi and trees, fish and humans, birds and mammals.
Make an observation and ask a question.
