Scenario
You are a financial analyst at your health care organization and the executive team is looking to expand and grow by building a new hospital in a nearby city. You have been tasked with choosing the city in which your organization is looking to expand, research and understand the healthcare space within that city and the top competing hospitals. From the information that you gather you will create a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover that you will present to your team and the executive staff.

Some background information about the healthcare organization:

A for profit healthcare organization
Majority of reimburesment comes from fee for service contracts, Medicare, and Medicaid
Designated as a level one trauma center
Specializes in Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics
Service mostly privately insured and government insured patients

Directions
Your final portfolio submission will need to be in a formal PowerPoint format with voiceover to present to your team and the executive committee. Each week you will build your PowerPoint presentation with voiceover by creating slides that cover the topics for the week as it relates to the scenario. The slides should be organized with the main points you will be discussing. Please include research and what you will cover in your presentation with the executive committee in the speaker notes at the bottom of each slide. You will compile your entire presentation for your ePortfolio submission.

Deliverable Descriptions
Week 2: Competing Hospital Business Set-up and Patient Population
Due by the end of Week 2 at 11:59 pm, ET.
In this section of the project, you will first identify the city in which your organiation is looking to expand, then, identfy and choose the two hospitals that your organization would be competing with in the city that you have chose. In four to five PowerPoint slides with voiceover, address the prompts below. Remember, your slides must contain at least two scholary resources to support your responses.
Identify and describe each of the hospitals business structure; Are the hospitals not for profit, for profit, HMO, etc? What are the defining characteristics that make their business structure different from each other?
From a financial perspective, analyze the legal and regulational boundaries that the two hospitals may experience due to the type of business structure.
Identify and describe the different type of services offered and the customer needs that the two hospitals seek to meet.

Jim is a financial analyst at his organization and his primary role is to ensure that the Cardiology service line and the Transplant service line stay within its operational budget for the fiscal year. Today, he is meeting with the operational leadership of his organization’s cardiology service line. He let them know that they are currently over budget for the year, mainly due to staffing and over utilization of supplies.
In at least 750 words, write an essay in APA format that critically evaluates the organizations operating cost. Ensure that you answer all prompts thoroughly using at least two resources as references to justify your response.
Educate operational leadership on why it is important to the overall bottom line of the organization to contain these costs and the challenges that come with doing so.
