The study protocl uploaded needs refining based on my instructor’s feedback. Below is my instructor’s feedback:
The plan is good, but it needs refinement in terms of developing specific aims that are feasible and testable.
Describe the purpose and the research problem in the proposed study. Your response in this section will enable the reviewer(s) to determine whether the project meets the criteria of research with human participants and also the extent to which the research may produce new generalizable knowledge that may benefit the participants and/or society.
The study will identify significant healthcare disparities among low-income African American communities (we know a lot about what they are – the key for you is to be specific about what disparity/disease and to develop an idea about key factors and how the connection can be tested — you are an epidemiologist and there is a scientific process for testing ideas that can lead to action to ameliorate the problem) and their causes. Also, it will focus on possible solutions to alleviate the healthcare disparities. (The first part of the paper will entail the abstract, which entails the study background and an overview of the entire paper — you mean study proposal).
There is no known design with that design … Describe your research design: The research design to be used in the study is the correlations research design.
I suggest doing a pubmed search on health disparities … latest review papers .. look up CDC website on health disparities … what interests YOU??? Do you have an idea about any particular risk factor??? Find out about the scientific literature on a particular problem .. in doing so you will think of ways to advance the science on the subject etc.

Abstract – The study will identify significant healthcare disparities among low-income African American communities and their causes.(Too broad). Also, it will focus on possible solutions to alleviate the healthcare disparities (too much).
The first part of the paper (study proposal not paper) will entail the abstract (does not need to be specified – the IRB applic will ask for it), which entails the study background and an overview of the entire paper.
Background OK – before you can begin you have to think of a specific health disparity .. then do a google and/or pubmed search on it … what has been done? What is known? What is known? Then think of how to fill the gap .. answer the question? This is the science — the use of epidemiology to understand the causes of diseases/health problems…
