Movie Review Paper: You will select one movie from the list to write a comprehensive movie review paper. You will watch it carefully at least a couple of times. You will make notes while watching the movie paying attention to dialogue, setting, characterization, etc. You will connect all of this to what you have learned in the various chapters of both books. The paper should be about 2000 words to 3000 words (or 8 -12 pages double spaced, 1-inch margins, Times New Roman font).
Use these questions as the basic framework on which your paper should be based. I value strong theoretical arguments with reference to the movie and text, good writing style and proofread papers.
You will discuss the sociological and historical context of the movie. When was the movie filmed? Which period in history does it portray? Who were the actors? What was happening in society at the time this movie was made? What was its impact on society once it was released?
Describe the relevance of the movie in the context of your course material. (Example: you will describe whatever you have learned about domestic violence from the two texts and then describe scenes/dialogues etc. from the movie that ties in with the topic)
List at least three new conceptual ideas (what is occurring?) you have learned in your text that applies to this movie. These concepts can come from different chapters of the books. Describe the concept and how you have observed it in the movie. Quote a few dialogues or scenes to exemplify your findings and how the concept applies to facts or scenes in the movie.
List at least three theoretical frameworks (why something occurs?) you have learned in your text that applies to this movie. These frameworks can come from different chapters of the books. Describe ways in which domestic violence has been handled by:
The criminal justice system. Is it reflected in the movie? Suppor your arguments.
Human services. Is it reflected in the movie? Support your arguments.
Society/people? Is that reflected in the movie? Support your arguments.
Pick three scenes/situations in the movie, describe each scene/situation and what is going on. Now imagine the victim or the offender is your friend. Based on what you have learned in both the texts, what you tell them? Why? Reference the chapter/book where you learned about it.
