Describe the roles and responsibilities of the involved stakeholders as well as the available and needed resources.

Advocating for Student Needs
Student affairs professionals must recognize the limitations of
resources in a higher education setting. An understanding of the macro-level
view of the department and the institution allows student affairs professionals
to prioritize how their needs align with the needs of other departments.
From this position, student affairs professionals are in a more advantageous
position to professionally and persuasively advocate for the student needs at
their institution. Part of this process is assessing student needs in order to
set priorities that should appropriately influence departmental or
institutional goals.
For this assignment, create a presentation advocating for a
program or event to meet an identified student need. This should address
an important campus issue, such as threats on social media, sexual assault,
diversity on campus, mental health, physical abuse, drug and alcohol
consumption on campus, or eating disorders.
Direct the assignment to the institution’s vice president
responsible for assessing the necessity of each proposed program or event.
Assume that he or she has decided that only one issue will be addressed in the
next school year, and your goal is to persuade him or her to implement your
program or event.
Include the following in your assignment:
·
Summarize the chosen issue.
·
Explain your justification
for the chosen issue.
·
Prioritize the needs of the
department in light of the priorities of the institution.
·
Describe the roles and
responsibilities of the involved stakeholders as well as the available and
needed resources.
·
Provide any facts or data
about the issue.
·
Persuasively convey the
importance of allocating student affairs resources to the identified student
needs.
