In this Performance Task Assessment, you will assume the role of a journal club member in your practice. As a member of this journal club, you will analyze quantitative and qualitative articles and develop a narrated PowerPoint presentation that discusses the components and quality of each study.
To complete this Assessment, do the following:
* Be sure to adhere to the indicated assignment length.
* Download the Academic Writing Expectations Checklist to review prior to submitting your Assessment.
* Your SME will provide two articles, one quantitative, and one qualitative, that you will use to complete this Assessment. If you have not yet received these articles from your SME, contact them via the Connect with My Faculty Discussion.
Before submitting your Assessment, carefully review the rubric. This is the same rubric the SME will use to evaluate your submission and it provides detailed criteria describing how to achieve or master the Competency. Many students find that understanding the requirements of the Assessment and the rubric criteria help them direct their focus and use their time most productively.
All submissions must follow the conventions of scholarly writing. Properly formatted APA citations and references must be provided where appropriate. Submissions that do not meet these expectations will be returned without scoring.
This Assessment requires submission of TWO (2) documents, each of which is a 6 slide PowerPoint presentation. Save these files as:

For this Performance Task, you will imagine you are asked to present two research articles to a journal club. You will create two narrated PowerPoint Presentations to explain the parts of each article to the journal club.
The Director of Clinical Education at Fallsview Hospital has asked you to present two research articles to a journal club at the hospital. One article is a quantitative research study and the other is a qualitative research study. In addition, he has asked you to provide a refresher to your peers on the parts of a research article to help them better understand research in the nursing field.
The PowerPoint you submit will include two sets of 6 PowerPoint slides for each slide.
Quantitative Journal Club Presentation (6 SLIDES)
Your first PowerPoint presentation should include the following information:
* A title slide for your journal club presentation
* A brief overview of the parts of a research article as a refresher to your peers in the journal club as stated in the Walden University “Anatomy of a Research Article” article.
Using the Quantitative Article provided by your SME, identify the following information:
>Article citation
>In your own words, describe the purpose of the study
>Explain the type of research design that is used
>Describe the sample selection
>Describe the data collection methods that were used
>Explain the data collection measures and tools
>Analyze any plans for data analysis (i.e. describe the statistical analyses that were used)
>Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the overall research design
